As part of our “Journey to Tomorrow” program, all IHG hotels are replacing small, individual bathroom amenities with bulk-size pump bottles. This represents a significant first step toward minimizing waste across the hospitality industry, and is the first initiative of its kind undertaken by a global hotel company.

InterContinental Yokohama Grand began the phased introduction of this initiative in December 2021.

Initiatives to Reduce Energy Consumption

IHG Green Engage
Launched across our global portfolio in 2009
IHG Green Engage is an online system that facilitates environmentally responsible hotel operations. It allows each hotel to track energy and water consumption, carbon emissions, and waste management, assisting in the reduction of energy use. Another defining feature of this system, “Green Solutions,” offers guidance on more than 200 specific measures hotels can implement to reduce their environmental impact.

LED lighting conversion
Implemented in phases since 2014
We have replaced all lighting throughout the hotel with LED fixtures, helping to reduce electricity use for air conditioning by limiting heat buildup.

Phasing out plastic straws
Since 2018
We have discontinued the use of disposable plastic straws in guest rooms, restaurants, and banquet venues, replacing them with biodegradable alternatives to help reduce plastic waste.

Eco-friendly guest room amenities and packaging
Introduced in phases since 2019
As part of a global initiative across InterContinental Hotels, materials used for in-room amenities, including combs, toothbrushes, shower caps, and shavers, as well as their packaging, are made with environmentally preferred materials. Furthermore, containers for boxed meals and prepared foods sold at the hotel are being gradually transitioned to packaging made from paper or other environmentally friendly materials.

Guestroom linen reuse program
For guests staying multiple nights, we encourage participation in our linen reuse program by reusing in-room towels and sheets. To help reduce wastewater generated from laundering, linens are not replaced after the second night unless service is requested.

Transition to full-size pump dispensers for bath amenities
Introduced in phases since December 2021
Across all guest rooms, we are eliminating miniature single-use bath amenities (shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel) and moving to a refillable system using full-size pump dispensers.

InterContinental Yokohama Grand strives to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including earning certification under Yokohama City’s SDGs program, “Y-SDGs.”
