The massive structure at the tip of Shinko Pier is Japan's first dedicated harbor loading and unloading crane, constructed in 1914. It is registered as a civil engineering heritage site as a valuable historical relic. Its hammer-like shape gave it the nickname "hammerhead crane," from which the facility's name was derived.
